Luxor-Westbank

Location: At the edge of the desert behind the ticket office in the village Habu City. Follow the sandy track at the ticket office direction Medinet Habu Temple. After about 200 metres you find the hotel on your left hand side hidden behind trees.

Category: No stars. In 1984 opened by late Hassan Mohamed Ali (picture below), in 1999 renovated and extended by his son Refat (36). Clean house with one indoor and one outdoor restaurant (max. 65/100 guests), large garden terrace with a lot of greenery, special lightened reading corners and a billard table. The sun beds at the spacious roof terrace invite you not only for a sun bath, but also a magnificant view up to the mountains, to the Habu Temple and over the agricultural land to the Colossi of Memnon. During the excavation season in the winter months the hotel frequently is booked by international archaeologists. Therefore it also is called by the ancient name Per Äao (big house) from which the word pharaoh was adapted.

Hotel: 20 double rooms, ten triple rooms, 20 rooms with private bath room and air condition, in ten rooms - eight of them with air condition, two with ceiling fans only - the guests have to use two shared bath rooms. Additional beds for children available on request. Five rooms have the entrance from the roof terrace. No telephone, television or radio in the rooms. If needed you will find a local telephone in the reception. Water is supplied to "Pharaohs Hotel" by the public pipe as well as by its own well.

Service: Booking based on bed and breakfast, half or full board on request. 24 hour room service. To ride to the hotel: Take a Service Taxi or a private one near the public ferry in El Gezira (stopp at the ticket office), on request the hotel can order regular taxis for you. The hotel also offers you ticket service for the archaeological sites, arrangements of any kind of trips, booking of domestic flights, confirmation of return flights for hotel guests.

Restaurants: The spacious indoor restaurant as well as the large terrace restaurant are open all day round. Breakfast starts at 7 a.m., dinner is served any time until midnight. Drinks are served as long as guests ask for.

Food & Beverage: For breakfast Nescafe, tea, fresh juices, several jams, Egyptian cheese, eggs, omelettes, salads and Egyptian bread will be served. For lunch and dinner the guests find different Egyption and international dishes. Soups (8 LE), salads ( 5 LE), main courses with chicken, beef, lamb, Steaks and Veal, sometimes fish (25 - 40 LE), side dishes (8 LE), omelettes (8 - 15 LE), desserts (7 LE). All kind of soft drinks, different fresh prepared fruit juices (5 - 7 LE), milk shakes (8 LE), coffee and tea (4 LE), coffee/tea and cake (10 LE), local beer (12 - 15 LE) and wine (90 - 120 LE). Please notice that alcoholic drinks will not be served during the holy month of Ramadan. Vegetarian menues available.

Special Offers/Entertainment: "Pharaohs Hotel" has the pleasure to give you two real special offers: All around the year the "Romantic Night" will be organized on request (min. ten, max. 50 persons, open for everybody). This evening with barbecue, bufett or with picknick baskets take place in the family owned house in the ancient village of Thutmosis III. Like a cave the building with columns and a balcony is cut into the mountain, with high visibility you can see up to the Habu Temple. Inside the building looks like the pharaonic tombs, this, of course, will give the night its special touch and atmosphere. Food and drinks will not be served on tables but on carpets.Seatings will be find on rocks comfortable covered with matrasses. At the end this three hours lasting evening will be topped with Oriental music - live or from tapes - and dance. The location can be reached through a pathway, comfortable shoes are recommended. The price for the "Romantic Night" is around 70 LE plus drinks per person.
As the second special of the house seminars for hieroplyphes held by Egyptologists are offered in the hotel (in Englisch, on request in Italian language). Everybody who like learn more about the pharaonic picture writing can join this courses. Reservation in the hotel. In addition to these specials private parties, barbecues with or without live music and dance on the garden terrace or the roof garden can be arranged on request.

Staff and languages: Owner and Manager Refat Hassan, who speeks fluent English, French, a bit Italian, runs the hotel with eleven employees. The service staff speeks English, a bit French and Italian. Another contact person guests find in the retired Italian Egyptologist Alessandra Pidutti. She spends again and again longer periods all over the year in the "Pharaohs Hotel", meanwhile something like her second home.

Prices: Double room with private bath room LE 60 - 120, with shared bathroom LE 40 (B/B). Special conditions for groups or companies on request. All prices are per night and room incl. all taxes and stamps. Taxi shuttle from the airport, railway station or from the public ferry can be oranized for local rates (from the airport over the bridge LE 50, from Luxor by ferry LE 25.
