Location: Straight away from the ferry climb up the little hill to the crossroads. Directly in front of it there is a down hill alley. Follow it 50 m, on the left hand you find the hotel "El Gezira".

Hotel: Starting the "El Gezira", owner Gamal Mahmoud became one of the pioneers in hotel business on the West Bank. Since the opening in 1996 Gamal found many regular guests at the hotel. No wonder. Everybody feels at home, because there are only eleven rooms and soon everybody knows everybody. Anonymity like in a big hotel - here it is an unknown word. The rooms are simply but practically furnished, equipped with AC, shower/WC and balcony. The only things guests will miss in the rooms are TV and telephone. However, the highlight of the hotel is the roof terrace (picture below). It offers a wonderful view over the backwater of a branch of the Nile - on the bank the hotel is situated - over the farmland with its palm trees up to the Nile. The terrace is the meeting point, the right place to have a party on a mild evening (or night). A little bit more quiet atmosphere you will find on the garden terrace on the bank of the backwater (see picture at the bottom of this page). Here you can relax watching the fishermen doing their work and you can try a fishing rod by yourself - but the fishes are very small.

Food and Beverages: Breakfast is served on the roof terrace, but if you like, also in the small restaurant beside the lobby (picture below left). It includes bread, butter, jam, yoghurt, feta cheese and tomatoes, tea or coffee, on request also eggs prepared in different ways. As main dishes the "El Gezira" offers only traditional Egyptian food. In Tagen (earthenware casserole) slowly cooked meat, kofta, chicken or fish, served with salads (mixed and tahina). vegetables of the season, potatoes with tomatoes and onions, rice. Desserts are sweet cakes or fresh fruits. Thirst-quenching are fresh juices, soft drinks, tea, coffee or the local Stella beer as well as a tasty Egyptian wine.

Service: The employees keep faith with Gamal, the permanent staff is working with him since many years. Also this is a part of the familiar atmosphere they build up, the waiters know many guests they are coming back and what they like. But also newcomers are given a warm welcome and soon they will be a part of the "El Gezira" family. First foreign language is English. Gamal also speaks German and French.
Entertainment: Things are going pretty lively when there is a party on the roof terrace. Following the live music many times some guests perform a remarkable belly dancing. If somebody likes it more calm so he can take a good read from the book corner - bequests of former guests mostly in German and English language - and relax in a quiet place.
Special services: Gamal is organizing every trip on your request with car, bike, donkey, camel or horse.
