The house: In 1998 owner Sayed Taie Mohamed constructed his house. On the first view it looks very simple, with its ocra colour it fits in well in its sourrounding and the structure of the village. But inside it suprises with a well done combination of Egyptian living style and European comfort. All this the result of experiences made by Sayed (he speaks fluently English, French and Danish) when living 17 years in Danmark, visiting in this time frequently Germany and France. An amazing view you find on the spacious roof terrace. Across the green agricultural land you look to the Theban mountains of the Western Desert withthe Valley of the Queens, and of course to the neighbouring temple of Medinet Habu. Behind his house Sayed designed a garden, inviting you to spend peaceful and quiet evenings. For children it is an idealand well protected small playground.
Location: The house is located at the edge of the green land and the desert in the village Habu Village in appr. 100 m distance south of the temple of Medinet Habu (picture below left). So close beside that you can nearly touch it the small temple dedicated to the god Thoth (picture below right), in Arabic called "Quasr El-Agouz" ("Old Fortress"). A tiny sandy alley leads to the house. Because it is not used often, you find in that place for sure relaxing silence.
Size: The surface area is about 150 sqm. The "heart" of the house is a spacious living and dining compound. From there stairs lead you to the roof terrace, a door to the garden. Skillfully arranged around this area are the two bedrooms (one with air condition), the living room with seatinga, the bathroom with electric water heater, toilet and bath tab and the kitchen, completely equipped including frige and washing machine. In the 120 sqm seized garden is a small summerhouse with an additional bedroom.
Occupancy: Ideal for one up to six guests, for families with kids up to eight sleeping facilities. Because all rooms are in the groundfloor, the house can also be used by handicapped persons.
Equipment: The house is completely furnished, in all rooms ceiling fans are installed. The wooden ceiling is not just an attractive optical element but also makes sure that inside the temperatures are agreeable if the weather becomes hot outside. A hi-fi system with several music cassettes are also there as well as a telephone with local line (that means you can receive international calls, but do calls outside Luxor and Egypt with a prepaid card only). You find also bedclothes like sheets, blankets, covers and towels. All floors are covered with tiles partly with carpets. According to Scandinavian style soft lightnings are installed. In the garden a huge round table with a top made of a glazed old water wheel invites you to sit down outside.

 

 

Zusatz-Ausstattung: Drei geländegängige Fahrräder (aus Dänemark importiert) stehen zur Verfügung. Im Garten wird teilweise Gemüse angebaut, das Gäste für die Küche nutzen können. Auf Wunsch kann ein Fernseh-Gerät (ägyptische Programme) zur Verfügung gestellt werden.
Service: Auf Wunsch übernimmt Sayeds Familie die Reinigung des Hauses, seine Schwester kocht auch gern für Gäste oder gibt eine Einführung in die ägyptische Kochkunst (gegen Kosten-Erstattung).
Fortbewegung: Sammel-Taxis fahren selten bis zum Medinet Habu Tempel. Daher ist meist das Ticket-Office der Endpunkt, von dort noch etwa sieben Minuten Fußweg. Auf Wunsch kann das Taxi von Sayeds Bruder Mohamed (spricht Englisch und Französisch) oder das Sammeltaxi des zweiten Bruders Mahmoud geordert werden. Ausflüge aller Art werden organisiert.
Infrastruktur: In der Nähe des Hauses befinden sich mehrere Kaffeehäuser, Restaurants, kleine Hotels und ein Mini-Markt. Fahrende Händler mit Gemüse kommen täglich vorbei. Rund um das Haus wohnt Sayeds Familie, die jederzeit in allen Dingen hilfsbereit ist.
Preise & Zahlungsbedingungen: Pro Woche bei Belegung mit vier Personen oder zwei Familien mit Kinder Euro 120. Zahlungen werden in bar erbeten, bei Zahlungen in Ägyptischen Pfund gilt der Tageskurs der Banken. Im Preis sind die Kosten für Wasser, Strom und Gas enthalten.
