Dreaming above the first cataract

They are sitting at the swimming pool. But the blue, permanently babbling water inside the kidney-shaped basin is just secondary of interest for them. The German couple Irmgard and Rudolf are fascinated. Fascinated by the view they take from the pool's terrace, by the view to the first cataract of the Nile, the view to the Libyan Desert in the back. "Here one can get into dreams", Irmgard says - and it seems as if her eyes are glistening by some tears.

They just give a short visit to "Sara Hotel", like to have an first glimpse because they are searching for a new place to stay for their next vacation. Already after some minutes there was one thing for certain: That's it. An uncomparable location, an unforgettable view. "This is the right house for our next holidays in Aswan."

All that sounds a bit kitschy - but it is (nearly) the truth. True is that we were in Aswan to search for a good hotel, a recommandation for you, dear visitors of our website. Because many times we received requests for that.True is that we met German friends in Aswan who joined us during our investigations. And true is also what Irmgard was saying about the "Sara Hotel". But not true are the names of our friends. We changed them because finally not everybody has to know, who of our friends recently spent their holidays in Aswan.

Let's go back to the expression "kitschy". When drinking a coffee or tea (also a beer or wine is available) at the pool terrace of "Sara Hotel" one experience sheer kitsch. There is no other way to discribe the interplay of the white felucca sails, the blue of the Nile here with its swirling water, the green of the first cataract's islands and the yellow and orange of the western desert with its mountains and sand dunes (see photographs above and below). A feeling as if you are jumping right into a idyllic picture postcard creeps up on you, everything seems to be real and unreal at the same time.

Enough of passion. Even Rudolf means: "Here I could sit the whole day and enjoy the view." A view that goes as far as to the mausoleum of the Aga Khan.

We leave them with their enjoyment and dreams, are going to have a closer look to the hotel. For the facts please click here.
