Eastern Desert
A very new offer is the Eastern Desert, so far relatively unknown by tourists. The rough mountain desert between the Nile valley and the Red Sea brings to you dramatically landscapes but also meeting with the local beduine tribes. "La Gazelle" now offers you trips in the area between the cities El Quseir and Marsa Alam.
One-day-trips
Sightseeing with the Landcruiser (up to six persons) on the East and the West Bank of Luxor, rides to Dendera, Abydos and Edfu.


To give you a first idea how a desert trip can be oranized, we give you an example of our programmes (five days in the Western Desert):

1. Day: Start on the West Bank of Luxor, ride to the oasis Kharga, visit of the Roman Fortress Ain Labakha (city ruins, tombs, temple, picture above right), the early Christian necropolis (4. - 6. century) El Bagawat (picture above left) with its domed tombs, partly painted with biblical scenes, and the temple of Nadura, constructed during the reign of the Roman Emperor Antonius Pius (138 - 161 AD.).
2. Day: Drive to Beshendi (pittoresque village with the Roman tomb of Ketenus, 2. century, and the tomb of Pasha Hindt, built in Islamic aera upon Roman foundations) and Deir El Haggar with a temple built under the rule of the Roman emperors Nero (54 - 68 AD.) and Dometian (81 - 96). Then we drive to the beautiful village El Qasr, which got its style during the reign of the Mamelukes and Ottomans, with a minaret from 12. century, an ancient grain and olive mill. In addition to this carpet weavers offer their goods like before in Beshendi. Our target of this day is to reach the centre of the oasis Dakhla.
3. Day: Start in Dakhla and to the oasis Farafra, where we visit a garden of palm trees and a hot mineral spring, where you can take a healthy relaxing bath (picture below left). Then we will enter into the White Desert with its unique white limestone formations, designed by erosion to bizzare mushroom constructions. By luck we discover fossils left by the sea.
4. Day: Crossing the White Desert (picture below right), visit of the quarzite rock, crossing the Black Desert, drive to the oasis Bahariya, the Valley of the Golden Mummies.
5. Day: We continue our trip to Cairo (total distance around 1000 km, two nights in the desert, two in oasis hotels).

Technical and practical information:

-   All tours will start in Luxor or on request in Cairo.
-   For all trips to the desert and oases we use new Toyota Landcruiser (picture on top of this
    page - four-wheel-drive, air condition, first aid equipment, permanent contact to our helping
    people by phone), starting in Luxor or Cairo. We offer our trips all over the year.
-   The drivers also are tour leaders and guides, they speek English and French.
-   Prices: Individuals have to calculate per day and person when travelling with two people around
    110, with three people 99, with four people 88, with six people 82 Euro.
-   All payments are requested in cash before starting the trip, we can not accept credit cards or
    cheques. Foreign currencies will be changed according to the official daily exchange rates of
    the Egyptian banks.
-   Prices include transportation, over nights in the desert under the stars or in tents and/or in
    simple oasis hotels, meals and drinks in the desert, breakfast and dinner in hotels. There are
    also some new star category hotels in the oases. Of course it is possible to stay there, but
    the difference compared to our regular hotels will be charged extra. Also all costs for entrance
    tickets of the sites, camel trips etc. will be charged as extras.
-   Prices will be calculated according to size of the group and length of route. The cheepest way
    is to travel as a group with four up to maximum six guests per car. Of course you also can
    travel alone, but you have to know that we have to charge you for the price of two guests.
-   Own sleeping bags (suitable for winter temperatures) are highly recommended.
-   Booking: For longer trips we kindly ask you for booking latest one month before we travel.
