Restaurant Africa

Since 2001, the restaurant AFRICA is led by Ali Ahmed Mahmoud. It is located in the village of El Gezira, about 200 meters from the Nile - with the public ferry dock, which connects the west and east bank - and the many small private motor and sailing boats. The unique restaurant is located in a corner house on the main road in the 1Floor above a coffee shop and a small shop for pottery and spices. Coming from the Nile the entrance is just around the corner at the beginning of the narrow path leading to Hotel El Gezira.

In the course of the building measures by the city of Luxor and the separation from his partner he had to find a new home. On the main road at this time there was an abandoned place, the former Malqata Restaurant, and he could take over the rooms and give them a new face. He has established a roof terrace with a homely atmosphere and a wonderful view down to the Nile up to Luxor. Guests immediately may feel at home here and enjoy a large selection of excellent Egyptian food and drinks, served by friendly and helpful waiters, at reasonable prices. But Alis service is not limited to the culinary delights. Guests also benefit from his experience and his knowledge of the country. He gives advice on excursions, organized tours, a shuttle service or day trips by boat including lunch. So, everybody who is in need of good tipps, can go to AFRICA and ask Ali.  So, the AFRICA is a bit more than just a restaurant.

Answering the question “why the name AFRICA?”, he said, between the Mediterranean Sea and the city of Mina, Egypt belongs to the Arab world, and from there to the Sudan, to Africa. We are a country between two worlds. We, in El Gezira, just belong to Africa, hence its name. It sounds plausible.
